Nomad Knights

Who are the Nomad Knights?

The Nomad Knights are the highest ranked team in the Goals Beyond Grass Powerchair Football Club Development Programme.

As of 2nd May 2023, the Nomad Knights play in the PTC Therapeutics Powerchair Football Championship, the 2nd Tier of Powerchair Football in England. They are currently top of the league, with just 4 matches to play.

The Nomad Knights also play in the West Midlands Powerchair Football League – Championship, which they won on Sunday 30th April, winning 100% of their games. This means that they are now promoted to their Region’s Premiership, the West Midlands PFL – Premiership.

The Nomads also had a great run in the WFA Cup, only losing out in the Quarter-Finals against Aspire PFC, who are currently top of the PTC Therapeutics Powerchair Football Premiership (The best team in the country). Reaching the Quarter Finals showed the Nomad Knights’ intent on promotion and competing with the biggest teams in the country, as they were the only non-premiership team to reach this stage, having beaten Villa Rockets (7th in the Premiership) in the round of 16.

Where do the Nomad Knights Play and Train?

As above, the Nomad Knights play in the WFA National League, in the PTC Therapeutics Championship. As matches are only 40 minutes long, 2 – 20-Minute Halves, all of the teams in the league will meet and play 4 or 5 matches in a weekend, usually in Nottingham. This means costs for the players stay as low as possible, and as many players as possible can come along and get a good amount of game time.

The Regional Matches follow a similar format to the national matches, however the venue is in Birmingham, rather than Nottingham.

Training for the Nomad Knights is every 2-3 weeks at Chosen Hill School, for 3 hours at a time. This gives the players plenty of time to work on drills and match practice, which has prepared them incredibly well for this season of Powerchair Football.
